85531 registered Sept 1957 to Western Enterprises, Inc of Taiwan (founded by
the CIA in 1951).  In late 1957 missions were staged from Kurmitola Air
Field in East Pakistan to parachute agents into Tibet.  Stored at Clark
AFB Dec 1957.  Disassembled for parts at Clark between March and Oct 1958.
It is believed that this plane was eventually scrapped.
The number 44-85531 appeared again as registered on another B-17G
Sep 1, 1960 registered to Atlantic General Enterprise, Washington DC
(another CIA front) as N809Z.  These registration numbers were then

registered NX4600 1946.  Civil registry later to NL-1B.  Later given to Shah of Iran under
registration EP-HIM.  Became F-BGOE after Iran and then scrapped.

85733 sold to Institut Geographique National
of France as F-BEEB.  Destroyed March 1949.
44-85734 converted as turboprop test bed by Pratt & Whitney under civil registration NX-5111N.  Went to New
England Air Museum, Windsor Lock, CT between 1967 and 1987.  Nearly
destroyed in tornado Mar 10, 1979.  Remains traded to Tom Reilly
in 1987 in exchange for work done on a museum B-25H.
Will be used for parts (along with 44-85813) for a
flyable B-17 marked as *Outhouse Mouse* by Flying Tigers
Warbird Restoration Museum, Kissimee, FL.  Assigned
civil registration of N817BR in July 1999.  There are
rumors that Israel is interested in acquiring this plane
for a museum in Israel.   Registration N390TH reserved Sep 10, 2003, taken
up Feb 20, 2004. Aircraft is now Liberty Belle out of Florida!


85738 converted to DB-17G then to EDB-17G and
then back to DB-17G.  On permanent display
at AMVETS of Tulare, CA
85740 sold on civilian market as N5017N.  Now
owned by Experimental Aircraft Association of
Oshkosh, WS and maintained in flying condition painted
in colors of 398th BG B-17G 42-102516 "Aluminum
Overcast" which was shot down over France on Aug 13,
1944.

use in creating a flyable B-17 out of usable parts from
this plane and from 44-85734.
